OK, first deal posted, so take it easy on me. I got a fax from Gruber (1-800-658-5883) which says that they are clearing out slow moving inventory and are selling their cables (lifetime warranty, booted CAT5) well below cost. The prices look great, but the $50 minimum makes it a deal only for large businesses (or selling them yourself!) Looks like a choice of colors, too for those that need color coding.

Here's the price list

Length Length Cost ea.

Part - 17-6084Z0-003 3' $0.36
Part - 17-6084Z0-005 5' $0.46
Part - 17-6084Z0-007 7' $0.56
Part - 17-6084Z0-010 10' $0.67
Part - 17-6084Z0-014 14' $0.87
Part - 17-6084Z0-025 25' $1.25

Mods, I have no affiliation with the vendor. I just got the fax and will be taking advantage of it myself and thought I'd pass it along. I included the part numbers because I figured they might be necessary to get the deal.

Just got another message that they have lowered prices again and the $50 minimum is back! (One of the posts said that there was a new $100 minimum in June.) Following is the new price list...

Part Number Length Cost
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part - 17-6084Z0-003 3' $.29
Part - 17-6084Z0-005 5' $.37
Part - 17-6084Z0-007 7' $.47
Part - 17-6084Z0-010 10' $.58
Part - 17-6084Z0-014 14' $.74
Part - 17-6084Z0-025 25' $1.22
Part - 17-6084Z0-050 50' $2.24
Part - 17-6084Z0-100 100' $4.35
($50.00 Minimum Order)

Colors - Blue - Gray - White - Black - Red - Yellow - Green (Subject to stock on hand)

Are Patch cables different from the cables that you buy in 500ft rolls?

I'm asking because the cable that you buy in rolls are not meant to be curved at sharp angles and are quite sensitive to bending, because they are originally intended for use inside walls.

What do you call the CAT5 cables that are more durable?

I was about to buy tools to make cables when I work for my company. But lets think about how long does it take you to make 1 cable? I think around 10min or more. If u'r running a business, $.36/cable is really cheap compare to the time you pay for a guy to make cables.

1 hr = $6.75/hr (CA rate) = 4 cables (let say 15min/cable) > $.36 x 4 = $1.44

You are right, it is cheaper, but I cant see it taking anyone more than 5 mins to make a cable(if they do it right the first time).

If I can budget the money, im going to order 50 of those 25' cables for lan parties.

I received the cables I ordered yesterday. (Fairly fast delivery - 100 cables for $51.00 ranging from 3 foot length to 25 foot length.) I have about 50 in service now, with about 40 more to be installed. Quality is VERY good, with clean cables and boots and high quality connections. (I had struggled to get a clean connect with some of my "home-made" cables -- probably because of low quality ends. These are very nice!)

By any chance are these "snagless" cables? By that I mean "Is anything covering the clip in order to protect it if you pull the cable through a bunch of other cables?"

Thanks!

By any chance are the cables that you received Cat 5e or just Cat 5? I might jump on this deal, who knows what other deals they might have.

These are definitely just Cat5, not 5e. (I'm looking at one in my hand.) That might be why they're slow moving, if everyone is now buying 5e. I could care less, though. I'm just happy that I don't have to worry about the 5e cable frying my hardware. See link Link

I just spoke with a rep at Gruber, and they still have like 20 or 30K left worth of CAT 5 cables left to sell. He said they started with 290K.

My one issue here is I was ready to place an order, and the rep I spoke too said he would call me back in the morning tomorrow to complete the order because nothing would be shipped today anyway. He asked for my credit card number and everything first to setup and account which I gave. That's always scary to do without getting some kind of receipt of an order. Well, I did check the home page of Gruber and everything looks ok.

Just called and spoke to a rep Chris, who was really friendly. He answered all of my questions quickly... They still have a bunch left, in a bunch of colors, so grab them while you can!

That's not to mention the cost of the materials...You'd have to have the tools, crimper, ends, and boots to have this person make them at $6.75/hr whereas the 36 cents includes the material.

Great deal!

I think the math would actually work out the guy would make at least 10 cables per hour, and only make about $4 an hour(since even a monkey could be taught how to make cables). But still, this is a great deal.

Wow that is a damn good deal. I make my own cables, and I can not touch these prices. Just the ends are about 20 cents each in bulk.

I just don't get paid till next friday. I am sure they will all be gone. The e-bayers will grab these up.

So, are these the ones that can't be bent, stretched, flexed, etc... or are they like the ones we can get at computer stores (such as CompUSA) that are stronger and more flexible?

I'm pretty sure these are the kind that are more flexible. I ordered $58.20 worth.

3' $0.36 10 $3.60
5' $0.46 10 $4.60
7' $0.56 20 $11.20
10' $0.67 20 $13.40
14' $0.87 20 $17.40
25' $1.25 2 $2.50
50' $2.70 2 $5.40
Total $58.10

They don't have anymore 25' or 50' lengths and the colors were basically black and grey (at least when I ordered). These are "booted' so the quality should be good and the rep told me they have a lifetime warranty. Shipping is like $10, but still a great deal.

Just called, and they have everything EXCEPT the 25 & 50 footers.
Ordered 20 of each of the remaining sizes. More than I possibly
need now, but they'll never be cheaper (and as someone else
noted, I can't even make them this cheaply).

Well, my order came in. The cables are booted and CAT 5 as promised. Great deal! They back ordered the 25 footers I ordered. That kinda sucked, but hey, that was one heck of a deal for $58.20 + shipping!

It only takes a total of 5min to make your own cable. i bought a 1000ft spool and it also came with 100plugs, 100boots, and a crimper for $40. i got to choose the color cable i want and they color matched the boots. you can find the wiring diagram on making crossover cables or straight cables on the internet. i found the site within the first page of links that the search came up with. Dont get me wrong im not trying to crap this thread but i am just refering to the time it takes to make your own cables! It is very easy to make too!

BUMP for a good find and nice prices on cables!:D
