EVE Online Goes 64 bit!

Ok EVE'ers.... 4 hours until downtime! Set your long skills and get ready for the 64bit cluster upgrade!

I played on the new cluster sunday and monday... absoultely fantastic. While they ran the test cluster on the ancient database for the test server... you could feel the actual game server's prowess. Dual Opterons running 64bit Windows 2003... yum. Today they hook it up to the RAMSAN database and work out any niggles with the proxy servers and hopefully go online within the 24 hour window.

Can you say 300 vs 300 battles? I can... even on the old database hardware the new cluster was able to cut normal 2-5 minute fleet lag into 10 seconds or less. Simply... amazing. On the RAMSAN its going to be 300% faster me thinks.

Get ready for a wild ride! Wooohooo!

I didn't even relise we were running on the old database hardware when they did the invasion of empire thingamagig. that makes me feel better then since I was a bit worried about lag while less would still be bad

Makes me wish that Blizzard would update those WoW servers to something a lil better than what seems to be pentium pros.

WTF @ the pic in that article.

Is that Thekal (ZG tiger boss) in Ironforge? 😕😕😕

That would be Shamalam-Doobop on the 3rd level of Askardarieth behind the seal of Markabethsis which you can unlock with Aunt Mable's Ladle which you can get by bringing five black eagle wings and orange clay from Mount Hazakareeyah to the narcoleptic half-elf named Scooter who is in the blacksmith's hut in the middle of the Desert of Aridia. Bring some guildies because the Kobold High Priest Associate Apprentices on Mount Hazakareeyah are tough.
