I'm thinking of buying the entire collection of DVDs on amazon.com for $145 or so. This will convert to around $235 CDN. Would this be wise, or should I go for some alternative, free *methods* first?

I've only watched the first episode and it seemed preatty cool, but the quality wasen't that good.

Also thinking of getting the Death and Rebirth DVD and the End of Evangelion as well.

Thought and opinions?

I've watched the first 3 and wasn't impressed enough to buy the box -- I prefer Bubblegum Crisis, Kishin Corps/Geo-Armor, Ghost in the Shell or even Gundam Wing for mecha, and something more silly like Jubei-Chan or Tenchi for comedy. So I'd say rent or borrow from someone before spending that kind of money.

For hardsuit battles I'd even rate the Votoms saga higher, despite the very dated animation style :)

But I seem to be in the minority amonst the EVA-worshippers :)

You may want to spend about $38 USD to get the entire series on DVD from HK (English subbed), view
it, and then decide whether you want to spend $300-odd Cdn. to get the series and both movies.

If Evangelion rows your boat, you may also want to track down a fansub or two of RahXephon - it's quite
similar to EVA in many ways, yet different enough to be interesting. For instance, their Shinji-type character
isn't some whiny wuss who refuses to kick a$$ in his menacing super robot, and said robot does not
require a powercord. It also contains 0 Asuka's and several Rei's.

Then again, there's also Full Metal Panic, which has cool mechs, far less religious symbolism fluff and is
far more entertaining than both EVA and RahXephon. ;)

Scryed, lol, the only anime that's not better than Scryed is DBZ.... or perhaps some of those tentacle
rape hentais which I try to steer clear of. I saw two episodes and the fighting sucked, everyone just
yelled constantly and it looked like animation from the 80's.

it is a great series. i really like it. i've bought the DVDs seperately, as they were coming out as i couldn't have waited for them to be in a boxed set. Need to finish my collection w/ the movies.... maybe sometime.

i'd say rent. there are better things to spend your money on. like the new special edition of "grave of the fireflies" yes its anime. that and other movies by ghibli/miyazaki are dfinetly worth buying, movie quality animation, not eva:p
