There ain't nobody on the face of this earth that can tell Trump what to do. What it does take is a guy like Hannity who says things Trump likes to hear to make Trump do what they want. Imagine that, Trump has a whole pile of seasoned expert gov.t employees who have been begging him to rein in his self-destructive urges but chooses to listen to and make national policy decisions on the word of a talking head who lies just as much as he does. Hmmmm, well that actually makes sense in some contorted dysfunctional kind of way.

Now that the evangelicals have arrived to tell Trump what NOT to do because it's making them look like the hypocritical charlatans that they've always been it is to me a meeting that can only be held in a very confined and dark place that can easily be described as hell on earth and definitely not a place where heaven and hell do battle. I really do hope Trump stays true to form and give those evangelicals the same dismissive lip service he gives his own hand picked advisers. It's what these hypocrites rightly deserve.

If only faux conservatives would read the bible they purport to support and see what Jesus says about this kind of behavior. He warns us that at the time of the end that there would be a great falling away as the church leaves its first love, him, in favor of worldly cares.

This apostasy has been in full swing for decades as Christians are no longer the salt of the earth and the light of the world. For bona fide Christians we are told that when we see these things to look up for our redemption draweth nigh.

Will that redemption come before or after God has Russia and China destroy America with nuclear fire for its sins?

Bona fide christians will be protected or raptured away of course, at least that is what they say and believe.

The only thing worse than a liar is a liar who is a hypocrite. That is why the right takes more heat on this topic. Yeah, Clinton lied about his affair, and he paid the price for that. It was also twenty years ago. These evangelicals supported trump knowing what he was, that makes them hypocritical which is worse.

Yes that is what the bible says. Jesus comes for the church in the twinkling of an eye and in that day one will be taken and one will be left. Once the restrainer is removed everyone that is left will get to have a go with Satan and his boys with no holds barred.

They'll make a show of praying on him, then announce "everything is fine", but behind the scenes they'll be preying on him to make another concession towards some Theocratic goal.

Bah! More liberal fake moral outrage. Humans are not not perfect and you Democrats have plenty of scandals in your midst. Bill Clinton proved that. But, gee, it's not alright because a republican did it. Boo-fucking-hoo. Go back to reading your 50 shades books, you hypocrites. Watch the video of Obama reading from his book about liking ribs...and pussy too. Human beings are not saints, politicians are worse, yet people still vote for them. We've created and allowed our own problems. We either demand morality, or we don't. But just stop with this phony outrage.

I think you are missing the hypocrisy angle of this. Liberals have a very laissez faire view of one's personal life. While the right likes to grandstand on personal morals.

For 20 years the Left/Dems have been preaching to everyone why private sex lives don't matter. Now they are unhinged because some guy is alleged to have had (consensual) sex with some woman 10 or so years before even running for office.

I don't think many here actually read the article. Criticizing the so-called 'evangelicals' for hypocrisy; why? They're not there meeting Trump for some kind of religious purpose. They're there for political purposes.

Wait a second, I thought they gave him a mulligan about all this stuff?

They're not pissed, they just want to know if he still has her number. That's exactly the kind of skankazoid that evangelicals most want to rub their nasty bits against.

I understand why many "reality" TV watching people who normally vote Democrat voted for Trump (plain old gullible stupidity, by my observation).

I can't figure out why religious people voted for him. They willfully deluded themselves. My mother is one of them.

My sympathies. It is always hard when your moral certainty has caused you to truly believe in a immoral fake. Your world view that the world is decent gets challenged and when that lands on top of a naive understanding and a lack of self awareness it is painful and challenging, often causing one to lash out. It happens to millions of people so you aren't alone. As someone who had to die to all of my own beliefs like that, I can only say I'm sorry you didn't suffer and recover your wits long ago. But there's always the present as long as there is a present. Good luck.

Faith is a methodology that allows one to believe in the nonsensical. When applied to the truly absurd it bites you in the ass, but where applied to say an unbelievable, that is to say never before experienced but potential altered state of consciousness, it can act as a magic step that facilitates transcendence. It was the latter that is intended by real religion and the former religion always degenerates to when the source of light goes out.

Evangelists and Donald Trump?
Queue the pillars of fire.
And on the plus side, maybe god will demand they all wander in the desert for 40 years.
Or at least until 2021.

I predict many pats on the back and discussions about how to win the mid-terms, and zero fucks given about Stormy or Karen.

Evangelicals voted for Trump because their leadership assured them that Trump would appoint a pro-life judge to the SCOTUS. It appears that he has. They didn't look at the rest of the deal at the time.

There has to be a lot of cognitive dissonance over there given just how sleazy this really is- payoffs to a porn star over a sexual encounter long ago.

Trump will repent his evil ways (kinda-sorta, maybe) and promise to do better. He probably will, if only because things aren't quite the same when you're 71, anyway. They'll kiss & make up. Evangelicals will try really, really hard not to notice what a sleazy bastard he really is, likely with some success.

Trump's lawyer, Cohen? The price of failure is that he falls on his own sword...

It's easy to argue against a straw man, isn't it?

What the left, and non-bat shit right wing actually is bothered by:

1. That he is compromised and blackmailable. He has already proved that he is willing to go to any length to keep things like this secret, which makes him a national security threat.

2. That the payoff, no matter how you spin it, equates to a campaign finance violation.

3. That the evangelicals are blatant hypocrites.

I actually don't give a flying fsck who he banged.

I do give a fsck wether or not he's a security risk and broke campaign finance law.

And I'm disgusted at evangelical hypocrisy.

They are there to feign concern so as to try and fend off the insanely obvious appearance of hypocrisy. The are trying to mitigate the damage that glaringly obvious hypocrisy has on the upcoming elections.

NPR reports several sources familiar with negotiations between top faith leaders and the Trump White House want the president to appear and take questions from supporters at a gathering of faith leaders on June 19 at his hotel in Washington, D.C.

"We're very concerned" about the allegations, the leader of one ministry told NPR.

"There's things that are like fingernails on the chalkboard to people of faith. That's not who we are; that's not a 'fruit of the Spirit'; that's not leading with humility," said another person familiar with the talks.

Around here we've all assumed that the evangelicals weren't bothered by the Stormy Daniels type of thing. My take away from the article is that we were wrong.

That's exactly what they want you to think. It's a dog and pony show to fake concern in an attempt to mitigate the damage to the GOP/evangelical brand.

If you think they're actually concerned, you're quite easily duped and have a very short, selective memory. You're quite literally acting like you've never seen real concern from this group. This isn't concern over Trump's morality and you know it. This is damage control over the after effects of selling their collective souls.

This sums it up rather well

https://whyy.org/articles/hypocritical-conservative-evangelicals-shelter-stormygate/

The word hypocrisy doesn’t begin to describe people who have forfeited moral authority and proved to be as fraudulent as the president they deify. There’s no other way to explain someone like the Rev. Franklin Graham, who said last weekend that he loves Trump because this president has “a concern about Christian values.”

This is the same Franklin Graham who contended, during the Monica Lewinsky scandal of 1998, that character counts, that a president’s private behavior can’t be separated from his public behavior. He wrote that if a president “will lie to or mislead his wife, those with whom he is most intimate, what will prevent him from doing the same to the American public?”

Graham had plenty of company that year. They were all in high dudgeon. At the ’98 Christian Coalition convention, which I covered as a political reporter, evangelical leader Gary Bauer said this about Clinton: “I walk around my home with the TV remote in my hand for fear that [my children] will come in the room when a story about the president comes on. [Thanks to Clinton] our kids have been taught that fidelity is old-fashioned, that adultery is the norm. This [sex scandal] is the equivalent of a cultural oil spill.” And Christian Coalition director Randy Tate chimed in, “We have to be a nation that expects the highest from our public officials.”

But not anymore. These people have converted to Trumpism. In the words of columnist Michael Gerson, a principled conservative, “The priests have become acolytes … The gag reflex is entirely gone.”

So it's a good thing for Trump that the hush money kept her quiet until after the election, right? It's kinda messy now but he'll still be Prez, anyway & Cohen gets to be the patsy.

So are the evangelical fuckwits going to do the laying on hands thing? Cause that's kinda why they're having this sit down.
