"My Immortal" has always been a song that moves me and I was looking to see if anyone could recommend a song with a similar tone. Thanks
This is stupid. Anyone can say negative things about any group in any genre. Who's the holier than thou moron who wrote it ? I bet they don't even play or write music.Originally posted by: MartyMcFly3
Urban Dictionary - Evanescence:
American Pop-Rock group who create their 'deep & meaningful' songs by weaving as many popular clichés relating to human suffering as they possibly can into the lyrics and then lacing over it with the soaring, operatic trills of Amy Lee and a good portion of spunky guitar riffs.

Hey, the entire Daredevil soundtrack rocked... too bad they couldn't find a decent movie to attach it to.
Same goes for the Scorpion King and Triple-X.

ANYWAY, there's quite a few songs similar to My Immortal. "Missing", "Ascension of the Spirit", "Before The Dawn", "Breathe No More", "Hello" (also from Fallen), " and "Fields of Innocence" come to mind.
let me guess... you base this on the 2 or 3 songs of theirs you heard on the radio ? They have well over 25 songs that don't sound similar.Originally posted by: Babbles
Probably any moron with a taste in music and appreciation of talent which realizes that a lot of their music is nothing more than pop-hack jobs.

Hey, I like Nightwish AND Evanescence, so watch it, bub.
Anyway, Evanescence's "October" is probably my fav of theirs. Well, "Hello" is also FCKING awesome. If you think you don't like Evanescence, at least look that song up first. Alright, my alltime fav of theirs is "Anywhere". Sadly, all the unreleased ones! They had done something like 6 unreleased albums before their 'hit' "Fallen". The tragedy is that "Fallen" is mediocre at best and an attempt to be more mainstream for more sales. Their previous albums are really much, MUCH better.
Oh, Nightwish, right.
They rock.
No, really. They ROCK. *AWESOME* group. And their lead singer didn't *used* to be an opera singer, she's actually training for that on the side now. She wants to keep working with Nightwish, but have some solo work as an opera singer. She has the voice for it.
They are Finnish, which is probably why you haven't heard of them before.
Songs to try of theirs....ooooh....where to begin....hmmm.....given your taste for 'My Immortal', I'd say the last three tracks on the 'Once' CD are the place to start.
11 - "Higher than Hope"
12 - "White Night Fantasy"
13 - "Live to Tell the Tale"
Track 10 is pretty good, too - "Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan" - but it's all in Finnish, so it's only the music and vocals you can really appreciate. AFAIK, the singles off this album are "Nemo" and "Creek Mary's Blood", which are both very good....but the other songs listed are better and fit your question better.
Off the 'Wishmaster' album:
10 - "Dead Boy's Poem"
05 - "Two for Tragedy"
Other songs from them you want to look for:
"Angels Fall First"
"Sleeping Sun"
"The Carpenter"
(Note that I'm intentionally picking their softer and more ballad-type per your interest in "My Immortal". They have a lot of very serious rocking going on in other songs.
