EV6 bus question

Since I don't have an AMD system, I am wondering how the 200 mhz EV6 bus works. Do the AMD processors actually run on this bus with the appropriate multiplier, and the memory is scaled down (sort of like what can be done with a VIA board) or is this bus just used to speed up transmissions from the chipset to the processor? Or maybe I am completely off.
