Europe trip!

How much did that cost?

It was a 2-week trip. Most would say that is not enough time but my gf and I pretty much had things in mind to visit and we simply executed.

Well... we knew people in Montpellier and Norway which saved us money on staying there. We decided to fly most of the places and Ryanair had some great prices.

We stayed in a hotel in Pisa for one night and in Paris for one night. Rome, Amsterdam, and London were all hostels. It ended up costing a total of $484.

We took some trains and that cost us a total of $562.

The flights were what cost the most for our trip... $1,958.

*Note that the prices are for both of us.

Other than that most of the attractions and food was pretty much what we expected (slightly higher than what we pay in the states). The only place that was a little ridiculous was London. Almost every attraction charged ~15 pounds. This pretty much adds up to $60 per attraction for the 2 of us. As this was our final destination and we are both food lovers, we decided to simply go outside all the attractions and use the money saved on a good meal.

Lets see...

2 nights in Montpellier
3 nights in Oslo
1 night in Pisa (didn't have to stay here... attractions can be seen in a day and make your way to Rome or wherever you're headed)
2 nights in Rome
3 nights in Amsterdam
1 night in Paris
1 night in London

Yup that was pretty much it besides food, souvenirs, and whatnot... granted we got 5 free nights at our friend's places.

My gf did an AMAZING job planning everything out, she was able to find cheap ryanair flights and cheap planes to certain places which is sorta why we jumped around all over.

wouldn't it be cheaper to just take a train and much of a higher cool factor ? I plan on doing this sort of trip as well...did you hope you had more time in paris or london? as that is where me and my gf will stay most of the time in our 2 week endeveur.

I wouldn't have minded staying longer in Paris but as I mentioned earlier... London is expensive (if money isn't that big an issue this shouldn't be a problem). We mainly flew places since we had some far away destinations (Norway) and this saved time.

Trains are not as cheap as they seem. Getting a Eurorail pass will save you some money but a lot of times you will still have to pay some extra for your specific ticket. Also a lot of prime destinations have trains that are packed and tickets won't be available... this can be risky especially if missing one train for another will mean a few hours of waste.

We traveled overnight for most of our trip, this gives you more time to spend in each destination and you can sleep during travel. Overnight trains tend to cost a more money as well. In the end just take a look at what you have planned and look to see if a flight is cheaper, we found some penny flights which usually mean $16 with taxes.

If I could redo the trip I would probably avoid London altogether.

Awesome!! I spent two weeks touring Italy last summer and found that even that wasn't enough to see everything. Great pictures as well!
