Europe knife Questions

Friend is going travelling to Europe for two months

Decided to buy a knife for them in their travels. My friend will be backpacking around so i thought it would be good. I could buy a swiss army knife but another other brands out there? I think he might just want a knife with a blade however to carry.

Thoughts suggestions? Brands? Company? Anyone have a good knife they use when they travel or anything?

Thanks

Swiss Army knife or leatherman-style multitool is decent. Allows you to slice your bread and cheese, open wine bottles, and do minor repairs, and doesn't look suspicious to The Authorities.

I use a Gerber multitool, and I used to have one of the small-size Swiss army knives (scissors, blade, flathead/nail file). The good thing about the Swiss army knife is that it has too little metal to be picked up by metal detectors at the airport, assuming you don't have change in your pockets as well, so you can take it on the plane. Bad news is the blade is too small for sammich making.

Try one of these.

Jesus, that guy's more of a douche than the Cold Steel guy.

You're buying the knife, not the huckster. There are many other manufacturers of similar belt buckle blades. I've found this to be a useful tool because it's always there.

Knife for selfdefense or knife for other uses? Because swiss army knives are a little too slow to whip out in case he needs to defend himself but theyre really handy for all the random things that international travel seems to create (minus the mugging)

i love the kershaw knives. i have a Leek and its great. for the times where i dont carry it, i have a swiss army knife, and i often have a leatherman handy. i got used to wearing it to work and just keep it around now. i have a leatherman Micra on my keyring as well.

I looked at all the knives you guys suggested ahah some of them are pretty amazing
I decided on a swiss army victorex? scissors two blades all the regular stuff jsut in case he needed more of a utility knife thingie. I also bought him a buck sing blade knife that folds up so he can keep in his pocket for "self defense"

Thanks for yuor sugestions!
