That, and cos we have a better public transport system, so buying a car isn't usually the first thing on our minds

Of course you have a better public transportation system. The US is 300 times larger than Belgium, making public transportation across the country much more difficult.

Americans work more hrs, have less vacation time but you get paid more relatively for the same degrees as we have.

We get more holiday, work less hrs (in general) but we get taxed a lot and get paid less.

How do we afford houses? Most don't or they bought them before in the past. Grads 3-5yrs out can't afford a 3 bed room, semi detached house.£220k+ ~ $390k+...

Nothing's wrong with me. I guess it's a US thing. You get people who go to Europe and come back with a smug attitude. They're the type who hangs out in Starbucks and talks about topics that they have no idea about, but they try to maintain that "cultured" image.

People like that used to be called "Eurotrash", although I haven't heard that used in a while.

I went up on that thing when I went. It's pretty cool with a great view.

That Olympic park seems like it was a futuristic city back in the early 70's, with a futuristic design and cool buildings. But now it's run down, so it has a very eerie feel about it. It's like Planet of the Apes, where you come across this old run down place that has technology more advanced than you have currently, a run down city of the future.

living in the EU (actually near munich) and now in the states i know there are nice places everywhere. Really depends where you are, i like the pacific Northwest (Seattle is beautiful) and some places in Florida are just gorgeous too.

When I came across your post I thought it really came out of left field - I didn't say anything in this thread that could possibly be considered smug. Then I realized you were interpreting the thread title as smug.

There's nothing smug or elitist about the opinion that Europe's architecture/aesthetic is more visually appealing than that of the US. It's a simple matter of fact that Europe has a 2,000+ year head start in constructing elaborate edifices. If someone appreciates history and old/ancient architecture, Europe is the place to go.

By the way, "Eurotrash" refers to uncultured Europeans - not pretentious Americans who vacation in Europe.

I loved Munich, Germany in general pretty much kicked ass.
