Eudora causes freezes

When I boot my computer and immediately load eudora after windows 2k loads up, eudora freezes my computer at the intro graphic is displayed. Usually there are many colored pixels in random places up at the top in of my screen. I had this problem in win 98se as well. Anybody know what's causing it and what I can do to stop it? I'm not running any virus protection software yet, nor anything else non-standard on startup.
