Why doesn't Intel and Microsoft just tell the EU to suck it and say they won't sell direct to them. The EU always seems to be fining someone for several billion dollars (up to 10% of global revenue, which is silly. 10% of EU revenue would make more sense). It seems it would be better to just say, we won't sell directly to you anymore. Since you all use it, you'll have to import it from a country that doesn't give us as much grief.

It doesn't seem like it would change their sales by much, it would just cut out the possibility of being fined 1.2 gagillion dollars.

The people who use Intel processors and MS OSs are still going to import them. It seems like something they would do to cut out the constant litigation they face.

it would be a huge reason for a competitor to come in. neither MS or Intel want that.

and the Africans will say get rid of all the farm subsidy Europe and North America give their farmers but do you see that happening? Everyone can set their own trade rules. If you want to be in that market, live by it.

I'm sure they ran the numbers, and figured that it was worth it for them to stay in the market.

Oh, and it WOULD cut their sales. People would start selling *nix boxes in every computer store in Europe, and once consumers got used to that, I doubt they'd switch back to a pay OS.
