Does eTrade have a minimum initial investment? I only want to stick in ~$1k and then add $100/paycheck or something. I just am wondering if I need $5000 or something before I can open an account.

go with mbtrading ... looks intimidating at first but its real simple and cheap and fast executions .. only huge downside no ACH ... best of luck ...

Be careful..I had an etrade account, bought some stocks, didn't have any more money to mess with, let it sit dormant for a few months, then etrade raped me for some lame $20 fee for not having activity for a certain number of time. I called them up and they wouldn't give a refund so I took all my cash and left. Remember to read the fine print w/ all investment firms.

Thanks for the heads up. That shouldn't be an issue, but it's a good reminder.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I was not a happy camper. I let it sit for a while and they ate a good chunk of money. Stupid etrade rules. I'll never forget..."Umm sir, it costs us around $20/mon to store your information".
