Ethics Panel Focuses On Rep. Jesse Jackson
A congressional ethics panel is investigating Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) after allegations last year that some of his associates had discussed helping then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich with fundraising if Blagojevich agreed to appoint Jackson to the seat vacated by then-Sen. Barack Obama.
In a statement, Jackson's office said the congressman was contacted last week by the Office of Congressional Ethics, a panel established last year and made up of non-lawmakers that looks into possible ethics violations by House members. Jackson denied any wrongdoing, as he did last fall when a criminal complaint against Blagojevich said that supporters of "Senate Candidate A" had offered to raise the embattled governor $1.5 million if he picked a certain Senate aspirant. Jackson has acknowledged he was the person being referred to.
"As I said when the Blagojevich scandal first broke back in December, I have done nothing wrong and reject pay-to-play politics," Jackson said in a statement. "I'm confident that this new ethics office -- which I voted in favor of creating -- will be able to conduct a fair and expeditious review and dismiss this matter."
The six-person panel will look into the matter and then recommend to the House ethics committee whether further investigation is needed.
The corruption investigation against Blagojevich, who was removed from office this year, has left a cloud of controversy over the future of Jackson, the son of the civil rights icon. Jackson's allies have said the allegations would make it difficult for him to pursue the seat now held by Sen. Roland W. Burris (D).
$1.5 million is a nice bag of change for a senate appointment, I suppose. Black politicians from Chicago seem quite adept at spending money very quickly.
I guess they must have known that the entire 'We will not seat a Blago appointment' line from Zero and his Senate pals was a crock of sh!t from the start to be willing to pony up the cash.

And bigots need to be elsewhere very quickly, starting with you.
