Looking at going to a New Years party at a friend's apt. There will be drinking, etc etc, the whole bit. Not generally a big deal.

One of my residents also happens to be a guy I went to junior high with, and is also friends with this friend - my question is as follows:

If both of us are 19 at the time of this party, but we're off-campus (read: twenty miles away, completely non-campus related), should I or should I not drink if he is there?

dude get wasted. he knows your in college hes not gonna care

EDIT: I have friends that are RA and such. and they drink with us. they dont care unless you wasted in the dorms having a block party. and if your off campus its no big deal. I see RA's at bars all the time. ones that have actually writtenme up before. its kinda funny

I know about plenty of RA's that drink at parties around here. Not saying it's right, but it happens often...

ethically, go ahead... but practically... i wouldn't. what if he gets pissed at you or something and reports your incident to HFS? i dunno, if HFS doesn't care, then go ahead. but if you could lose your position, then don't.

University rules here state that if a staff advisor/resident is at a party where one of the other residents of their dorm is, they must leave.

That's the difficulty... there is the potential for me to lose my job... on the other hand, I can also bank on the hope he'll go somewhere else for New Years.

You can't lose your job if you drink off campus away from school.

You can lose your job if the kid busts your a$$ by telling the school. Only way to prove it is to test your urine. So be nice to the kid for a month.

if you go and dont drink, could you still lose your job?

in college i always had more fun going to parties and laughing at my drunk friends instead of drinking, but thats me...
