Ethernet questions - male/female crossover adapter?

My dad mistakenly bought a regular ethernet cable to connect our two computers together when what we needed was a crossover cable. Now, we don't want to rip the cable out of the wall so tell me, do male/female adapter switches exist that will cross over the wire so that we can buy a male/female adapter and plug another regular wire to the end of it and plug THAT into the back of the computer? We don't want to have to buy a hub...

Never seen one myself, but they could be out there. Do the wires go directly from the wall into your computer? or is there a wall jack? If there is a wall jack just go get a short crossover cable.

No wall jack. He put them in the wall himself and it took him a whole afternoon so he was pissed off when he found out he bought the wrong type of wire...

Ultima,

Its not that hard. Just need to rewire your ends. Go this site that I had developed a while back to get information on the wire colors. That should do it.

Why not just cut off the connector and attach a new RJ-45 connector after having 'crossed' the cable? :)

My dad just spent a whole afternoon putting the wire in.. I told him that we could just rewire it and he was like "aww man.. well I'd rather not do that". Maybe he'll change his mind if we don't find any female-female crossover connectors at the store. Then, in that case I'll have a look at your site :)
