I left my PC in standby and went out. While I was out we had a thunder storm past when i got home my PC was off and upon reboot the it did not want to connect to the web i checked my wires and saw the green light from my lan port lit. I shut down all the way again and un plugged the PC to drain all power plugged everything back up and the light came back on yet still no internet connection. I switched to the second port on the MB and could connect but the first port with no cable in it still has the green light on.

Should I get a new board? Or just keep using port number 2? I am talking about the board in my sig

Same thing happened to my A7N8X a while ago during a thunderstorm - lan port was killed & light is stuck on. I've been using the second port ever since, it's quite unlikely that you'll be able to get the first working again. The lan chips on that board are both Marvell 88E8056's, so you don't have to worry about it having damaged the southbridge or anything..I would just keep using the board.
