Question Ethernet LED on when PC is off

Hello,

The LED on the ethernet LAN remains on even when the PC is off. How do I turn it off?

TUF B360-PLUS GAMING, Win10X64.
Intel® I219V, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller(s) RJ45.

It's the top (or left if the board is horizontal) ACT/LINK LED that stays orange. Sometimes it blinks.

I disabled some features from the network controller in device manager, but it's still on. In the bios I can't find a wake on lan feature.

Thank you.

Mine stays on all the time as well on my Z270 Taichi when a cable is plugged in.

It's really not an issue at all, but if it bugs you for whatever reason, you can put a small piece of black electrical tape over it, and it will block the light.

I would suggest that you return the configuration back to the way it was.

Otherwise (sooner or later), it will bite you in the back.

The light stays on because the cable is connected in the other side to a live device (like switch, router etc.).

If you would like to avoid the ""travesty"" of paying the few cents that this LED adds to the monthly Electrical bill, disconnect the cable from the LAN port every time that you do not use the computer.

Here is the way to deal with WOL in Win 10.

This should be a completely non-issue for most people. Are you afraid that the CIA will find you hiding in the darkness, because of your LAN LEDs?

The case is positioned in such a way that the light is directly visible, and next to a white wall.

After a few shutdowns it has turned off.
Thanks everyone.

It's possible that "Disable Fast Startup" in Windows 10, will result in the PC more fully powering-off, that could maybe solve it.

Otherwise, consider using a power strip with a switch to fully cut off power when desired.

When PC's first came out, the power switch, was actually that a switch in the power line, like a light switch. Today power switches just send a logic signal to the motherboard starting the power on sequence. There is always some power on a PC unless the power cord is unplugged or it is plugged into a power strip that is turned off. This ia also what allow WOL (wake on LAN to work).

Uh, like others said, electrical tape covering the led or you know, flip the power switch on the PSU to off. Bingo, no light.
