ethernet freezes computer very frustrating

Ok ive tried several diff computers diff cables and sometimes the cable works and sometimes it will actually freeze the computer.

Tried diff operating systems Xp and windows 7
Tried diff computers
Tried diff cables
All the computers are DFI if that makes difference i can drag out a gigabyte setup (have not installed it yet) All of them are gigabit marvell yukon it seems like.

Going to try half duplex and diff drivers first just figured id give the forum a shot.


Seems like such a weird problem completely diff computers diff cables (tho i havnt tried alot of cables) Weird part is works sometimes and freezes sometimes

Glad i use wireless but setup a router right now and it would freeze a few times in process and then work few times.

how do you know it's ethernet causing the freeze?

Take a look of event viewer and try to find some clue.

well thanks for bumping the thread at least. But I know its Ethernet because i NEver use Ethernet and my computers Never freeze except for when i plug it in. sometimes its almost instant freeze when i plug it in. I have tried 4 diff cables so far and about 10 diff computers of course most of them where p35 p45 x48 and All of them are dfi since i use dfi almost exclusively (but im building a p45 gigabyte right soon for the 2 year old)

Nothing is in event viewer because computer FREEZES! hahahaha

4 different cables & 10 different computers and all of them freeze when you plug in cables?

Never heard of anything like that, unless the network switch short circuts internally.

ok froze again, saw guy say that he had same problem but safemode worked, so im in safemod testing it out and works, setting the half duplex did not work even with only 10mbps ;/ very sad

Nope safe mode didnt work either gave me freeze when actually tried to use network, i will try a pci nic as well, very weird problems, going to buy another crossover cable as well
