So my company just bought a new Inspiron 1520 for me, and it came pre-loaded with Vista. This company doesn't however use Vista, so they wiped it and installed XP. I'm finding that the ethernet port doesn't work, and in my experience building PC's it seems like this is always the case until you install the proper chipset drivers. I go to Dell's website and of course they only have Vista drivers for this machine.

Anybody know where I can get XP drivers (specifically LAN) for a machine that only ships with Vista?

Open up device manager and find the network adapter or the ? mark for the adapter.
Then go to the part that list the details.
under that find the hardware id.
It will be something like :
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3065&SUBSYS_30651849&REV_7C

VEN is the manufacturer
DEV the specific device

Then go to :
http://www.pcidatabase.com/

Enter the data you got and it will tell you who makes the ethernet adapter, version, etc.
Then go to that manufacturer and hunt for a driver.

Great site for hunting down hardware drivers.

So was it the driver I linked to initially ? ?
Or did you need some other one ? ?
