Ethernet Credit Card Processing Machine

I need to replace a hardware store's modem-based credit card processing machine with one that can do the processing over the Internet through the Ethernet connection. Can anybody recommend a simple but good model? Will it work OK behind a NAT router? How are Ethernet-based credit card machines configured. Thanks for any info you can give me.
 
What company do you use for the authorizations? Cause they probably have a compatible hardware list that you'll have to follow.
