ethernet connection

You would need to find and download the correct drivers for your NIC Card
Or if it is a NIC built in to the motherboard, then the driver for that

For all this you need the Make of the Computer, The Make of the NIC Card
You can then go to the proper web site to get the drivers .. it may also
be on a cd that came either with the card or with the computer

Also, if this is an Onboard or built in NIC card, check to be sure it is enabled
in the BIOS

When you says it's not regognized do you mean it doesn't show up at all or does it show up as unknown device?

Strange, I'm having an almost identical problem. I think my ethernet port may be damaged though. I tried to look in the BIOS to see if it was enabled and I wasn't able to find it there. It would be under Integrated Peripherals in the BIOS? Also, when I looked in Device Manager it seems as if it's enabled because it had an option there to disable it. Am I in the same situation where just updating my NIC drivers will fix it?
