Ethernet card troubles. *FIXED*

OK, I got a Viper II video card free and thanks to its fan I had to move the ethernet card from the first slot to the third (I only have three). My FA311 Netgear card reinstalled without a hitch and I have no conflicts, but it spontaneously gives me BSODs that cut off my DSL connection when I'm doing something on the web (IRC, IE, CS, etc...). I did have this problem before, but I forgot what I did to fix it, so I'm begging all here now, what should I do? Can a Viper II run without the fan? Is there some windows trick? HELP!

Thanks guys, the irq settings were fine and the card still kept acting fussy when I moved it to the second PCI slot, and the latest drivers were the one offered on the Win98 disc. What solved it was installing new PCI/IDE Busmaster drivers for my ALi board, so far I haven't goten any BSODs yet and I've played through 2 hours straight of CS (before 5 minutes of CS would kill it).

first check irq setting make sure it is not shared

second some pci cards are picky about where they reside try moving if possible

third check for new drivers(fixes bugs)

hope this helps

Windows doesn't like it when you move NICs. It screws up the internal network configuration. I would suggest you put all the hardware back where it was then reboot a few times. Make a note of all your network config settings. Remove all network references to your NIC in the device manager then power down. Remove your NIC from slot one. Power back up and reboot a few times. Install the NIC in slot three then power up. Install any network config stuff that did not installed when he saw the NIC.
