Ok on 2 seperate computers my old 1 and my current after i got dsl i installed the ethernet card on my old pc and it takes about 1 minute after the pc boots to windows b4 i could do anything like connect to internet open properties in my computer or basically anything. Recently i got a new pc with built in LAN sad to say it does the same exact thing so i think it has something to do with xp and ethernet cards but i wondered if there is a way to fix this? I have the latest drivers for my new nforce2 pc and had the latest drivers at the time for my old pc. Also i have a pppoe connection which means i gotta give a name and pass each time i connect, dont know if that makes any diff or not, thanks in advance.

Its likely that you have a large number of programs starting on your machine.
Run a spyware checker. Do a google search for spybot and adaware, download and run them.
Go through control panel, admin tools, services and go to Windows Process Guide and compare what you are running to this list. You should be able to set some of your startup services to disabled. You can google any other questionable executables to see what they are and if they are necessary. Run regedit and check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and check out those applications through a google search. You might be able to remove some of them. This should lead to a faster startup time.

Good luck,

Sounds like a DHCP issue with your ISP. Sometimes it can take awhile for the IP address negotiation between your computer and your ISP to complete. Getting static IP's can help this issue.

If you already have static IP's then please disregard the above. :)

Thx guys I will try your suggestions but it seems to be something else because i can do a fresh install of windows and the first time the pc boots after i put the drivers on so windows knows what everything is it starts its crap. If i go into bios and turn off the ethernet card and the pc is fine. Basically the easiest way for me to explain is I boot the pc and it wont do nothin then after 1 minute to a minute and 1/2 all the little arrows on my desktop icons come up and everything is fine. and the booting prob is b4 i ever try to connect to the internet its not a perm connection i gotta log in and out.

Thx
James

Maybe its a problem with the autosensing function of the ethernet card. Can you look at control panel, network connections, lan, properties, configure, advanced, link speed and duplex. If that is set to autosense, try 100/full first, shutdown and restart the machine. See if it improves things.
