Ethernet Adapter not woking

After installing software for a Zoom external USB modem, and some Fax software from Faxtalk, my SiS 900-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter does not work. (I am using wireless right now)

the device status says "This device cannot start. (Code 10), and the Device Manager shows the yellow warning icon over it, Wireless and Firewall are working just fine.

The troubleshooting link does not help.

I did a system restore, and have the same error, and re-restored to after software install and same error.

I am wondering if there is some service that was turned off by mistake.
 
yes, I uninstalled them, and then updated them. Its a laptop, so I can not unplug it without great difficulty anyway. I am soon goign to buy an ethernet card and see what happens, but would like things to be back to normal.
