Ether USB Adapter on Linux

I don't know if that one will work or not, but I got a USB ethernet adapter, CompUSA brand for 20 bucks. Its manual shows how to get it working in Linux. So, unless you've already bought that card, I'd say just get the cheap CompUSA one. I doubt there would be any performance difference.

BTW, I'm not sure about the linksys, but the CompUSA one is not USB 2.0, so you'll only get about 10 MBit/sec transfers. Which is ok if you're only going to surk the net, or transfer smaller files.

leolaw, I have the Linksys compact USB 1.1 adapter and it works fine. I believe the USB 2.0 model uses the same driver and mostly the same chip.

Let see if either of you can find Ethernet USB 2.0 adapter.

I forgot what brand it was but I have a USB 1.1 Ethernet adapter that works great in Linux. Since most of them use the same chipset, any brand will probably work. What's neat is that under Linux, it becomes a 10/100 Ethernet Adapter but in Windows it's only a 10 mbit ethernet adapter. There's no difference in speed (because it's limited by the USB port) but I thought it was cool.

I just wish Linux would support those Phoneline USB adapters...
