ETA on New AMD Chipsets?

I was under the impression that both the nForce 3 for Opteron and the KT600 for Athlon XP should be in new motherboards pretty soon; any idea when these boards will appear and be sold to customers? I'm also interested in VIA's announced dual Opteron workstation chipset, but that's not supposed to come out until late fall I think.

no just single channel ddr400 but it supports 400mhz fsb officially and outperforms the nforce2 even with it;s single channel against dual channel

I was going to wait for the KT600 but i decided it would take a couple board revisions to take any bugs out which would make the wait even longer. Not sure it would be worth investing in the Athlon Xp at that point. it looks good.

The new XP-3200+ has a 200Mhz DDR FSB (400Mhz Effective). The new chipsets are backwards compatible, but even my XP2100 is currently running at 200Mhz FSB on an Abit NF7-S 😀

Just think of the KT600 as the 3rd revision of the KT400 😉

i see...still I'd like to see something a bit more from AMD. Their memory bandwidth is way less than the Intel boards but I hear it's not necessary. I'd still like to see more use of the high speed DDR available.

Does anyone know more about the nForce 3? I'm especially interested in what it'll offer in terms of overclocking/memory support (hopefully some overclocking support🙂).

I figure we are at the end of the AthlonXP line. KT600 will come soon enough and that will be it until fall...as for Operton I don't think we'll ever see Opterton sold boards at bestbuy mainly because they were intended for server use. Until then we might see a 3400+ and a 3600+ 200Mhz FSB Bartons. Beyond that though I don't see any new radical design or change. Though I hope that Athlon64 launch goes off with minimal bumps and good chipsets

actually, the KT400 should have been called the KT333A chipset. the KT400A should have been the KT400 as it was the first to support DDR400 and the KT600 should be called the KT400A because it was the first chipset to support DDR400 well. in case you're keeping score at home, here is a via chipset history for AMD:

KT133 (supported PC133 and sucked)
KT133A (supported PC133 well)

KT266 (first DDR chipset, should have been called the Via Abortion)
KT266A (first good DDR chipset)

KT333 (DDR333, whoopie)
KT400 (better version of KT333, should be called the KT333A)

KT400A (first DDR400 compatible chipset, why couldn't this be done with BIOS update)
KT600 (would be more appropriate as the KT400A in keeping with the tradition of not getting it right until the second attempt)

via, it is a love-hate relationship: we hate your sh*tty chipsets and you love taking out money every few months when you fix the bugs and make a new mobo. goodbye forever!
