Are they any good? Their quote is a good $400 less per six months than what I pay for 21st century with equivalent coverage.

A.M. Best rates esurance with an 'A (Excellent)' rating and a 'Stable' outlook.

Ratings:
Secure
A++, A+ (Superior)
A, A- (Excellent)
B++, B+ (Good)

Vulnerable
B, B- (Fair)
C++, C+ (Marginal)
C, C- (Weak)
D (Poor)
E (Under Regulatory Supervision)
F (In Liquidation)
S (Rating Suspended)

However, this rating is for the stability of the company, not how well they treat their customers.

Try Wawanesa

Their prices are unbeatable and they give really good service. You have to be a good driver though. See if you qualify for their service (they're the one to beat).

As previously mentioned, Mercury is cheap (but spotty in service). Also try AAA (very cheap & good). If you're military, USAA (exceptional and cheap). Amica is exceptional for their service. Geico & State Farm are competitive.

Go to the JD Power website for ratings of car insurers.

I had to deal with esurance over the phone once. They were just flat out rude and unhelpful. Needless to say, I am now a Progressive customer.

Check w/ your state's insurance board, and see how many complaints are against esurance.

I'm with esurance. I've never had to deal with an insurance company because I've never had an accident. So I just get the cheapest provider that I can.

I just called AAA to check their prices: 6 months, full coverage - $1,115
Esurance with the exact same coverage - $416
When I checked with Geico, about 6 months ago - $623

Needless to say, I'm sticking with esurance.

Just did their online quote - $1,515 for 12 months.
So, $757.50 for six months. Ouch.

I had esurance a couple years ago, then they went out of business. Or at least they did in California at the time. If I remember correctly they sent me a letter saying that they weren't doing business in California anymore and that I couldn't renew my policy. When I checked their website it showed that they were only giving policies in around 4 states after that. I was bummed because it was cheap and good enough, but then I never had to use it so I couldn't tell you much about their service. I was actually surprised to see the commercials pop up not to long ago.

I was insured at Liberty Mutual, I'm not anymore.

Got a new car and LM quote was 1800/year for required full coverage.
All State offered me the same coverage for 1000/year.

I haven't been involved in any accident while insured with LM so I don't know anything about its quality of service but for such a big difference, I'm very ready to deal with rude/mean people or to wait extra time on the phone.

My wife works for them doing processing work.

Fill out your paperwork correctly and she will not hurt you.

You need to go out more.

I have esurance at the moment, had them for 6 months (renewing next couple of days). They lowered the price by about $10 or so, I have a clean record. Seems OK so far, but have not dealth with any claiming process.
