Estimating neutrino flux from multiple sources

One of the problems I se in collecting data from neutrino observation is the difficulty in telling apart sources. Say for example that one wants to compare the flux of solar neutrinos with figures derived from models of the sun. Then one needs to know the contribution from other sources.

I came up with the idea that the figure on atmospheric neutrino flux is derived from measurements of intensity of cosmic radiation. And thus subtracting this from measurements one would get the solar n - flux. But this does not allow for any of the studies of atm neutrino oscillation that one keeps hearing about.

How do they get these data?

The oscillations mentioned above are flavor oscillations, yes. The wiki article on neutrinos is pretty good but says little about how one gain figures about atmospheric neutrino. After some reading of reports in arxiv.org I get the impression that atm neutrino flux is inded derived from knowledge of cosmic rays bombardment. That is why I get so confused when reading about studies of flavor oscillation of atm neutrinos. Do se the oscillations one must both derive expected figures AND measure the de facto flux i reason.

well well...
