I was just at the Infiniti dealer for an oil change and they tried to push me to get Ester oil rather than the normal Castrol syntec. They told me that the oil takes care of noise issues while starting although I don't think I've ever had that problem.
Anyone have any experience with this kind of motor oil? Is it really necessary? They were charging 11.99 for a quart and the car takes 6 quarts. The oil change was going to cost $98.95 + tax and I thought that was a bit too high. I ended up getting the normal Castrol instead since I don't plan on giving the dealer $100 every single time I have an oil change done.
Online, people are saying that its needed during the breakin period although it was being pushed as part of a 'regular' oil change at the dealer.

The Ester oil is recommended in the owner's manual, I believe. It's a specific formula Nissan designed to work with the materials the engine is made of.
