Hal,
The issue is that Americans tend to be very independent, and a lot of us distrust government. In the UK, it seems that the people are willing to trade privacy and rights for security. You folks gladly hand over more and more power to the police, thinking that your getting a safer society, which may or may not be true. What you are giving up is the ability to defend yourselves from your own government. That's the very reason we have the right to own arms, the actual wording in the bill of rights is this:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The idea being that we might someday have to take up arms against our own federal government. That's why so many of us are surprised at how complacent the British people are.

This is of course all opinion, and could very well be way off the mark, I never claimed to be a scholar or a genius.

So what amendment says Americans have the right to bare arms in the event the government tries to remove are constitional rights. It would seem to me these 2 laws are in conflict one with the other. One is unconstitional , You choose

That would be the second.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

We aren't really giving up privacy

The thing is, that to the English that whole notion is a paranoid delusion, the government are made up of the people, they aren't two distinct entities, we are the government, we don't need to fight ourselves, nor have we ever in a thousand years needed to. I've never understood this irruption distrust of the police.

I always forget, in American which one are the liberals? Are they the big government or small government ones.

they're the big government welfare ones. the conservatives are the big government corporate welfare ones. the first raids the middle class to provide for people too lazy to work, the second raids the middle class to enrich shareholders.

From the outside looking in, it doesn't appear that your government is "the people". To me, it looks like you have a government that decides what's best for you. We have a lot of that going on here as well, I'd go so far as to say we're heading down the same road, you Brits are just a few years ahead is all.

I am so glad Big Bowel Movements are still legal in America, but I am starting to get a little concerned.

And the trick is being a middle-class shareholder.

To the rest of you - what the hell is wrong with all of you?

You preach freedom, but when push actually comes to shove, you ALL would give up what you cling to so dearly, for your own safety and protection.

All of you, get over yourself, you are not important as an individual. That is the way the world works, regardless of how many rainbows shoot out of your ass. Get used to it.

Monitoring everyone 24/7? Isn't that what our corporate government partnered mobile companies are for and their mobile products?
