Does it matter? I believe Oregon State was on the cover of SI last year, and they did real well. In my opinion, it would be better for all if there was no poll until five games in so that teams don't have to fight to overcome a poor preseason rank. Then again, college football still doesn't have a playoff system, so I doubt anything will change.
