Haha, I was watching that for a split second on the Duece one night.. I remember back in the day when they aired a big MTG tournament!
BTW I think Basketball is the most popular sport now, according to one of the big international sports magazines it passed soccer back in 2001, it's subjective though when it comes to the whole world.

lots more action in curling than soccer.

Soccer game - run up and dribble ball to end, defense gets ball and proceeds to run to other side. Repeat ad-nauseum for 90 minutes.

You forgot about all the cool yelling at the rock for it to run and move. Great suspense, action and precision. Truly a man's sport.

That's because soccer isn't a sport. It's an excuse for "fans" to riot.
sounds like the NBA. or a Yankees - Red Sox game

How often do people die at soccer games? How often do people die at NBA or MLB games? Exactly.

I wouldn't be surprised if the number of people who will randomly flip through curling, stop and say WTF, and watch a little is comparable to active soccer viewers in the US. And curling is probably cheaper to televise due to licensing as already mentioned. In fact some of the fringe sports have had to actually pay the networks to get TV time, just like they were an infomercial. MLS might do that, but I can't see any European leagues or tournaments caring enough about the US market to resort to that.

Be glad there is any Champions League on regular ESPN at all, they were considering moving all of it to ESPN Deportes. Fox Soccer Channel is available on most digital cable/satellite packages and shows a lot of the Premiership at least.

just like the nba and the mlb, its a strict minority of extreme fans that always ruin it for the rest. and since there are exponentially more pro soccer games going on around the world, the number of incidents that happen at these matches are of course going to be greater.

and the deaths at the games, well, its probably only a matter of time till somethign happens at an NFL/MLB/NBA game with the way things are going
