ESOL, or, how can you avoid looking intelligent on the Internet.

Would it be far too difficult for the persons who post here to possibly use a spell checker before they post? We have so many self-proclaimed computer gurus here, who cannot spell to save their lives. Word processors have a spell checker! If you can surf the Internet, you can surely click on a spell check icon!

How hard is it, gentlemen (and ladies), to have TWO windows opened at the same time, one with a word processor, one with the browser? Ever hear of multitasking? Why not just type out your post in whatever poor excuse for English you normally use, run the spelling and grammar checks, then cut and paste the text?

Or do you like to look stupid? Some of you who post here are just entering or are going to be entering the job market. Poor English, either written or spoken, reduces your chances of getting a higher paying job. Think about that when you try to formulate a sentence.

If you take this rant personally, then maybe you should try a little harder to look and sound intelligent.

Of course, you completely miss the point. What you say, and how you say it, reflects on the way others perceive you. That is your choice. I am not trying to be an English teacher here. I am asking you to make use of the programs already on your computer. How hard is that?

Bothered? No. If it bothered me that much, I would just stop reading posts at this forum. I wonder why it does NOT bother you?

It doesn't bother me because it has nothing to do with me, and I can't do a thing about other people using a spell checker. I just accept it and read past typos and creative grammar ;)

I'm Typing

I type with two fingers only.(I never liked to type, just a phobia) I am slower and my fingers hit keys by accident.I have to go back and edit often. If I am in a hurry I will forget to edit.If it gets the point across, so be it.If I were to worry about this issue when I visited a forum,i would junk my computer. A study of this phenomum was done a few months back and it showed the typing habits of participants showed absolutely no bearing on the users education, status or wealth. Your analysis is your own.If you judge me or anyone by this method and it is negative, that is your lose, not mine.

Hey, you can't claim originality on that! I gave Adul the same advice on his birthday. And anyway, what type of stuck-up, idiotic moron judges someone by how someone types? What happens if that person is a foreigner, or has some sort of disorder, or simply a really bad typist? Reserve your judgment to where judgment is actually needed.

oh shove it!!! i'm sick and tired of this bitching from people who for some reason can't stand typeo's. I don't give a flying f'ck about how people spell, and although I'm a very good speller when I have to, I do not in hell bother using a spell checker when i'm just posting something in a hardware forum that maybe 10-100 people will read and forget in a day.

GRRRR :| and most spelling checkers suck dick anyway, so why the hell bother?

again, i CAN spell almost perfectly when it's needed....but it IS NOT needed here, so go ************!

and sorry about the language but I'm tired of this crap

Those who can do it do it because it is easy. Those who can do it, but don't do it for other than purely kreativ purpose, deftly exhibit a form of intellectual laziness that speaks volumes to issues of self-discipline. Making excuses for not doing it is a corollary intellectual laziness that provides only a false sense of pride.

If you have little respect for how you say what you say, you give others an easy reason to discount you, and what you have to say.

Having one less person to whom one has to listen is a big help.

Go ahead, make my day.

I'm lucky to be a reasonably good speller. But I have always wondered how the poor spellers can use search engines. For that reason alone, I would think finding a way to spell correctly would be essential to using the net.

Not flaming the bad spellers, just wondering.
