I knew what it was without looking it up.:)

It's also the trim around a doorknob or shower pipe that's flush with the door/wall.

I know what an escutcheon is, but with this question " Have ya ever used it.?How was it,cool?" I'm like WTF?!?! An escutcheon is decorative trim, such as what was used on really old radios around the frequency dial which was recessed. Its purpose is basically to draw your eyes to something.

Anyway, how in the hell can you "use" a death metal band.

You want me to draw you a picture?:p Y'know how between a door handle and the door surface there's a plate around it to hold it against the door? It's not just handle, then door. That's the escutcheon. It also applies to a shower head or faucet, the plate that the handle is sitting on. It's often decorative and on those fancy door levers and faucets.

I thought it was this?

a shield. It can refer to the whole shield or to the charge which consists of a small shield about one-fifth of the width of the shield on which it appears. It is also found as an alternative term for the subordinary the inescutcheon (for more information click here) Escutcheon can also loosely be used as an alternative term for a coat of arms.

Why would anyone use a shield at this time and age?

Jesus Anthony Harold Christ the Fifth, do you just bash out random words or something? That is two posts that make 0.000001% sense. I'm just as lost as from the first post.

In my recollection the escutcheon was a type of shield used in FFT. I did use them for a couple of my characters when they were very low level (<17)
