escrow1st.com have you had any experience using this service

MAKE SURE THEY'RE LEGIT! I cannot stress this enough.

There ARE fake escrow sites out there. They'll usually steal images/layouts from legit escrow sites to make victems feel safer. If they have a "verifed by verisign"/etc logo on their page, make sure it's real and links to a Verisign.com site. I've seen some fake ones that link to another page on their server made up to look like an offical verisign site.

Edit: I just did a WHOIS lookup on that site. It was created on 1/16/04. It's less than a week old. If you're buying something and someone wants to use that site, I suggest you pass.

Also, make sure the seller didn?t recommend it. There are sites out there which track fake escrow sites. Should be easy to search for.

How did you fund the transaction? Was it your bank account? If so, call the bank and tell them to be on the lookout for fraudelent transactions. If it's your CC, keep an eye on it for the same. Personally, just going from the fact that the domain is under a week old, I'd cancle it while I still can, and edit out any personal information in an account set up there

Can you give us more info? Was this a deal on ebay? How much $$ is involved?

Edit: the more I look at the site, the more legit it looks. Still, they claim to have been doing business since 2001.

With more info on the deal you're doing, we could probably determine if it was a scam or not.

I'm replying again rather than update the last post.

I googled for escrow1st. The second link is a list of fraudulent escrow services. Someone replied saying that escrow1st.com is bad.

I'm doing more looking now. Cancel the transaction and get your money back if it's not too late.

Edit: There's only three results. Two of the three list it as a fradulent escrow site. The third is in chinese, but some responses are in english, and from them, it sounds like the original poster got ripped off.

i didn't give away any credit/debit card information or my ss, but they do have my phone number and my apartment address, which somewhat concerns me. I contacted my bank and they told me that they can't do much with my ss.

I was originally going to buy a powerbook off of amazon for 1650 and I emailed the seller and they replied sending me info on how to sign up for escrow1st, so I setup an account and setup a transaction with them the seller needed to approve the transaction but I cancelled it before that could happen, at no point did I give them my credit card info. But I still feel uncomfortable in the sense that I'm not sure if the trasaction is a contract or anything.

You should be fine then. I wouldn't worry about them having your address, they're not going to bother you, they'll just look for easier targets next time to scam.

They even ripped off some of the images off of the escrow.com site... beware

Edit: Oh, and these assholes copied the escrow.com terms of service word per word too.
