"escorcher" and IE popups

A week or so ago I mistakenly clicked 'ok' when yahoo tried to install some software. The
software was 'escorcher', which claims to be a free antivirus package that subsists by
displaying popup ads on your machine.

Sure enough, I'm plagued with popup ads every since. I of course uninstalled escorcher,
but the popups persist. These are not specific ads for sites that I visit, just random popups
that even come up when IE isn't open.

Any way to get rid of these? I tried installing IE6, figuring maybe escorcher had installed
a new DLL or some such, but no luck. I can't find hide nor hair of this trojan in the registry
or on my hard disk..

Eagerly hoping I don't have to reinstall windows just to get rid of this thing..

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, I should have mentioned that I did try
uninstalling.

The first time escorcher installed itself, I killed it from task manager
half way through, which prevented it from uninstalling itself when I
tried.. So when I found the escorcher page, I re-installed the whole
thing, then went through the uninstallation process.

But the popups remain...

From whence they came, I wish I knew..

Any other ideas? Surely someone else has had problems getting
this thing off their computer..

Thanks!

d'oh!
now that i reread your first post, you did mention about uninstalling escorcher......
note to self: don't reply to posts when sleeping....

anyways, maybe escorcher installed some other program along itself that is responsible for the popups?
try to see what gets started when starting windows, by running msconfig
also, try to see whether adaware can clean it for you....

other than that, i'm stumped...
