For now I think I have solved my problem. I will use a USB/eSATA NextStar-3 enc losure I have, but I have found / ordered a cable that goes from eSATAp to eSATA + 5V Jack. Much better than tying up an additional USB port.

The cable is from Oyen Digital, sold via AMAZON.
