Is there any way I can test an esata port by any other means than plugging something into it? I dont have even a cable, and I want to use a port multiplying controller to setup a raid array. My server is a laptop i have that was meant for gaming, but that makes it decently powerful and I run Xubuntu on it.
All of this costs substantial money as I am sure I dont have to tell you, but its not worth it to test a port and find its bad and I have reason to believe there is a possibility of its being bad.
I am not even sure if you can test it with a multimeter, maybe it only works on USB because it has power running to it... but if it is possible I would love to be explained what i would be looking for. I have searched to see what the voltages, as I assume like Ethernet it likely carries low voltage to transmit, but I have been unsuccessful.
