errr DVI on my LCD?

Errr just recently while going threw the box of my connect3d x800xl i found a vga to dvi adapter. I didnt really know what it was but searching dvi online gave me some basic info. So far i found it that dvi makes the output completely digital and gives big proformance boast at high reses. But was wondering if i should and could use it. I have a LT782s 17' lcd from mag with a vga output and a connect3d x800xl. I run most things 12x10.

There is no vga to dvi adapter (except boxes that will allow you to convert that cost several hundred dollars).

What you have is a dvi to vga adapter. This will allow you to connect a vga display to a dvi output from your videocard. So... that should mean that your videocard has a DVI output already. If your monitor has DVI input, plug it into the card directly. If your monitor only has vga input, using the adapter is not going to improve anything.

DVI may be digital, but once you run a signal through that DVI-VGA adapter, it's back to analog, and possibly at lower quality than the integrated DAC (digital-analog converter) on the card's VGA out.

You can't send a digital signal to your LCD if it only has an analog input.

And DVI doesn't give a performance boost at high res. It may offer a clearer signal at high res, but I suspect that's b/c a digital output is cheaper to implement than an analog one (the reason some video cards have poor VGA out at high res is cheap components, not an inherent flaw in analog transmission).

o thats what i thought, o damn =/ lol. yeah ur rights its called a dvi to crt adapter. No wonder this 17lcd was so cheap. It has great response time ratio but no dvi. So i guess my lcd is stuck vga mode. Thx for the info
