Errr.. About to submit my resume... What's a cover letter?

Call me ignorant but I'm about to send my resume for an internship among with a cover letter. What's that? It also says to choose my available session on the cover letter...

The cover letter goes with your resume to say hi to your potential employer and sell yourself a little. If there's stuff you didn't put in your resume, consider putting it in the letter. Write it like you would write a normal letter, except with a bit more formal language.

Also, obviously, put down what time you want your session to be.

thx, ill go ahead and google it up how to write a formal cover letter.
[edit]
before i do that, how long is it supposed to be? Am I supposed to write about my accomplishments? The internship is marketing related, am I supposed to write about how I worked at Staples at 16 got me interested etc..? or is that lame...

A cover letter is not a uniform requirement, but where it is customary, it is a CRITICAL part of the process. It's the FIRST thing your potential employer sees, and shows them how articulate you are and how well you write.

It's a fornal letter describing a little about yourself and you accomplishments and goals.

How forNal are we talking about? 😉 Do I refer myself as 'I'?

How else would you refer to yourself, in the third person? That'll impress 'em. 😉 Not too formal I don't think, and I wouldn't make it more than a couple paragraphs. You haven't said what kind of job though.
