I built a new computer a couple weeks ago with these specs:
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra motherboard
Athlon 64 3200+ venice core
2x Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 with SATA II support (set up to run at 300)
2x OCZ Value Series 512 (total 1 gig)
ATI Radeon X800XL
Rosewill 500W psu
two optical drives (one toshiba, one lite-on)
a floppy drive
and Windows XP x64 Edition (big mistake).
I built it, got nvidia sata/raid 64-bit drivers on a floppy, set up a RAID-0, and installed windows. Everything seemed to work fine for a few days. Then I realized that I needed 32-bit Windows, which I installed on a new partition, and also seemed to work fine. The next day I got a BSOD (I don't remember the error, though I think it was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). After that I could no longer boot into either windows install, and I tried to reformat the drive, turn off RAID, and install again. I did this at least 8-10 times with different settings, but I always received an error when copying files: "Setup cannot copy the file: (filename)". It was almost always a different file each time, and it happened with clean installs of both OS's. I also tried installing to an IDE drive, but got the same problem.
At this point I RMAd the Chaintech and bought an ASUS A8N-E (also based on nForce 4 Ultra). I hooked everything up and installed Windows (x64). It worked fine, but then I realized that I had forgotten about RAID. I assumed that my old problems were solved, so I set the RAID back up and tried to install again. I got the same error copying files as before, even after doing low-level formats.
That's where I am now, and I don't really know what else to try. I ran memtest right after I built it at the beginning, and it didn't give me any errors. The Hitachi utility didn't find any errors with either of my drives.
I don't think I'm missing anything obvious, but any suggestions would be great.
