Errors burning CDs with LiteOn 48x-12x-48x?

I just got this burner, and whenever I make CDs with it (I have tried 48x, 40x, 32x, 24x, and 12x) most of the time I get a "cannot read CD" error. I have tried two types of media, same problem. Discs are checked to see if they work in three different CDRom drives. Images are usually Linux isos. My question is, is this my burners fault, or are the images just messed up? Any help would be appriciated.

Edit: Not to mention the POS laptop CDRom I am installing with as one of the CDROMs. When I use Linux CDs I have installed from before, the install never completes. So it could be the CDROM too?

Writing above 24X with lower quality media will be a problem with any modern writer. What type of media are you using, and what write speed? I've got some crappy CMC (Imation branded) that starts having problems @ 32X and above that is unusable. Try using a piece of quality CD-R media (TY -- Fuji, some Memorex, et al.) and see how it works. Also, you might try using the VS06 firmware.
