Hello all,

I'm encountering a problem when trying to install Mandrake Linux 9.1. This is on an older system, so I'm not postive that the hardware is competant, but it seems to be working fine. The error I get is as the installer is starting to copy files from the CD to the HD. The screen comes on for a moment where you see what file it's installing and 0% done. Then I get an error that says "ldconfig failed". The only option is an OK box. When you click that, the error message just pops up again. I've tried this with two different hard disks, both having been reformatted by the installer. I haven't switched out any other hardware.

Is this a problem with the software or the hardware? I've searched Google and Google Groups. There were some posts addressing the error message in Groups, but no real solutions. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

System specs:
Celery 466Mhz
128Mb PC100
Gigabyte GA-6BXC (440Bx)
PCI Video card with old S3 chipset
Kingston network card
Not sure what kind of CD-ROM

Thanks,
Swan

Probably either bad media or bad RAM. I know under DeadRat you can use linux mediacheck at the boot: prompt to have it check the CD, but I'm not sure if it's different under Mandrake.
