I start up the DVD station for my hollywood plus with "The Matrix" in my DVD drive, and up pops an error message right after the RealMaigc and Dolby digital logos.

The popup box is called MCI Error and the text is "MMSYSTEM261 The command used is not a valid MCI command."

This isn't a MMSYSTEM275 UDF file system error...I disabled that and rebooted...I know the matrix has worked before (wihtout disabling this)...and it works fine in software (WinDVD 1.2.99d OEM)...

I think that the DVD Rom might have been slaved to a hard drive last time I used it for the Matrix, now it's slaved to my CDRW, and I remember reading in the readme.txt where it was talking about the 275/UDF error telling you you might also need to disable your CD Recorder's UDF File system...and now its' slaved to a CDRW...related maybe?

The only this is...I've used it for Lodoss War since I moved it to being slaved onto my CDRW, and now I get the same error for it to..

I've tried 4 DVDs...none of them worked...

Anyone know what this error is?

<UPDATE>
I completely uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them.
Then I didn't get the error....but in properties the default drive was E: (my CDRW), when I selected F: (my DVDRom) up poped the error....this was without even having a DVD in the drive....

Do you think it sounds like the DVDRom being slaved to the CDRW is messing me up? I'm probably going to try switching it tonight so the CDRW is slaved to the DVDRom...I'm just worried that this will adverse affect CDRW performance.
</UPDATE>

I fixed it...if you are interested see my post about 12 down.

When I had a Hollywood+ I used to get the same errors until I upgraded the drivers.

Hrmm..I have the 1.82 drivers....
I have about 5 different versions though..maybe I should try a different one...

I also added more RAM to my computer last night...think that might be an issue? I dunno...does Win9X require a reinstall if you add more RAM? hehehe...

Go to the registry and then go to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Slide down until you reach a folder called DVD. Delete the keys in the sub-folder except for the key in the DVD folder. I don't know if that help's but have solved a lot of problems for me :).

If I remember the readme on WinDVD, it says the DVD drive needs to be the master drive. Having said that, my DVD is slaved to my CDRW and it works fine. I'm using W2K btw.

How odd, WinDVD works just fine as the slave to my CDRW

Just my hollywood plus doesn't :( but it has worked before now

But I suppose it's worth it shot if I can't figure anything else out.
I'll give it a try.

No actually this is in Win98SE
I don't have Win2000 on my computer ATM
I had a few issues with it so took it off.
I plan to go back to it eventually.

Noriaki: I've read somewhere on the Sigma homepage a subject regarding exactly The Matrix. Have you looked at their homepage yet???.

AoD ;)

[EDIT]Didn't seem to be able to find it :(. Well I have the H+ and a Toshiba 1402 and I can play The Matrix without any problems. A little strange that you can't...[/EDIT]

I think I changed to memory address of the hollywood+ card to fix this. I seem to remember that it was some kind of hardware conflict.

Well I emailed Sigma Designs tech support with my problem

Some help they were...

Please re-install the drivers, as if that's not the first thing I thought of...

Make sure the drivers are completely uninstalled, delete the registry branch, and the inf file. Wow..thanks for the tip...

Make sure the card is not entered in the system device manager...

Then re-install..

Some help they were...

Well they didn't help so I was off on a quest to fix it..

I pulled the card and completely removed the drivers, rebooted.
Shut down and Reinstalled the card and rebooted again. Came up new hard found I skipped past that (wrong thing to do BTW) and installed the drivers, I got an error "A copy of this driver may already be in use"
hmm so I cancled to see why..and BSOD
Then my system wouldn't boot (not even POST) until I removed the card from it's PCI slot.

Ouch...hrmm well I'm not beaten yet...so undaunted I set off aagin
I removed all traces of the driver (card not in Slot BTW)
This time I grabbed the manual...and it said to point the new hardware found wizard at the drivers on the floppy (or folder on D: in my case as I downloaded newer drivers) and AFTER that install DVD station.
Well I did that...and seemed to work ok! yay! no MCI error...put in a DVD and fire it up! And my playback window disappeared?!!? WTF!?!?
oh..my monitor was attached to my video card...not the passthrough port..well I fixed that and rebooted and still no playback window..
GRRR ARGG!!! still undaunted I re-install the drivers one more time, and at this point everything looks good. I haven't reconnected my audio cables yet so I may have no audio...but I doubt it. Everyone seems happy now.

What an odd problem and a lot of persistance required to fix it.
lesson learned: READ THE DAMN MANUAL!

Hehehehehe

Thanks to all of those who made an effort to help me, especially soccerman who went so far as to catch me on ICQ and try to help me out.
Sigma tech support is useless...bleh...but it's fixed now so I'm happy.

:)

similar things happened to me.. it took alot of frustration and time, but every time, I've fixed a problem that the tech support couldn't help me with (ok, except that damned modem that seemingly died on me for no reason).
