Running a fresh install of Win XP Pro w/SP2 on a friend's new build and I get this really odd hang up when I shut down or restart windows. Windows closes, but before it can, something (app?) in the background pops up with a Red X message and makes the "error tone". It doesn't really cause any problem, other than being annoying. Windows does successfully shut down. What ever is giving the red X error message goes by too quickly to see.

It started immediately from the fresh install w/ ASROCK drivers installed and AMD Dula core update 1.3. Since, AVG, Ad-Aware, and Nero have been installed along with other updated drivers.

Ideas?

Thanks for the reply -

I found an Red X application hang, but the only other info I see is that it is "Category 101", and 'Event 1002". A yellow exclamation Warning also appears with the source listed as userenv, but it is a few minutes later, so I'm guessing they are unrelated.

Also, under system a few days back, it lists an error under System Control Manager.

EDIT: OK, I found that if I right clicked the error item I could check properties. The offending item wasn't my shut down problem (it was a Nero video player hang).

OK, I found the file and the problem. The file was USRprbda.exe. It has the modem running as a local user account instead of a System account. I found a nice write up and fix about it HERE for anyone else who gets this little bug.
