Hey all, need help with this one. I have a friend whose roommate screwed with his machine while he was at work. He tried to do a Direct Cable Connection with his laptop.
Now my friends PC gives him an error message at every boot, referencing an entry in System.INI or the Windows Registry. It tells him it cannot locate the following files:

Vredir.vxd
dfs.vxd

Also, he gets a message that Windows cannot load the dynamic link library msnp32.dll

I am assuming that it has something to do with the failed DCC, but cannot track down anything in the System.INI file and am not all that familiar with the system registry.
Can anyone give advice?

Thanks in advance,
Shane

You may try uninstalling and reinstalling dial up networking from add remove programs\windows components tab under commumications take the check out and hit ok. you will probably have to reboot and after you reboot you reinstall dial up networking by putting the check back in. if that doesnt work you may remove the dial up adapter and client for microsoft networks and tcp/ip from the network setting and reboot and add them back. one of these should replace the missing files. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOU WIN9X CD HANDY.

You have to go into the registry and do a search for those .vxd files. Then just delete them.
