Error loading operating system

I'm trying to install XP Home but after it copies all the files and reboots it gives me the error msg in the title. I tried switching the hard drive detection from auto to LBA but that did not fix the problem.

Also, I'm unable to use the recovery CDs to install the operating system and what not onto this new hard drive. This hard drive has been installed into another computer and formatted to NTFS just fine.

Any other ideas what may be causing this? I can't reflash the BIOS as I can't even get Windows to load on this machine. Thanks!~
 
I'll spare you the gory details of my similar experience. Suffice it to say, what finally worked was using Maxtor's zero-fill utility and, like magic, all was well after that.
