Error loading operating system message

I was transferring a large file between 2 of my hard drives when Windows XP locked up. I reset the computer and when it got to the Verifying DMI Pool Data..... screen it says error loading operating system. Any idea what went wrong or how to fix it?
 
I've experienced similar oddities when my power supply was heading south. I would recommend backing up your important data to an external drive or disk soon, scanning your hard drives for errors and examining your hardware for possible failures.

I agree - a failing power supply could well be the cause. I also had similar weirdness when it started playing up.
