Error installing vpn software under Vista

I am part of the beta team testing Sonicwall's vpn client under Vista and I had originally gotten it to install but ended up uninstalling it so that I could put a newer version on. Unfortunately when I attempt to install it now I receive:

UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevice(2) failed - virtual adapter can not be installed.
Error = The system cannot find the file specified.
path = 'C:\PROGRA~1\SONICW~1\SONICW~1\Drivers\netRCVPN.inf

I then press Ok and receive another popup that says:
Failed to install the virtual adapter!

The file netRCVPN.inf does exist in the specified directory and I have been attempting the install as Administrator, tried right clicking on the .inf file and saying Install, tried going through device manager and installing it as a device and tried the Sonicwall clean tool before attempting an install. Nothing works.

Does anybody with Vista knowledge have any ideas of anything else I can try?

Edit: No I cannot let anybody have the beta client, sorry 🙁

Are you running the installer elevated? Second, shouldn't this be posted on the Sonicwall's beta forum and not here?

Yes I am running the installer elevated and I have it posted on the sonicwall beta's forum and they are stumped. I have also been on the phone with their engineers. I was hoping that someone from the larger community may have a suggestion. My best guess is that a file is locked but I have no idea how I would tell.

Did you verify that path exists and the file exists as well? Also, check under your profile incase the path was mistakenly virtualized.

The path does exist and the specified file exists within that path. What do you mean about the path being virtualized?

You might have some of the file i/o redirected if your not elevated, if so you're likely to have some files under \users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore Those files are the ones the app will 'see' when it does IO instead of the ones in the real path, its done to help with XP (and earlier) interop. I've seen cases where a file is written here and its easy to forget about it, so its worth checking that path as well.

Well I am running the installer as Admin but how do I go about checking the path virutalization?

well I ended up solving the problem. I edited the inf file and put in the hardcoded path of the catalog file. I was then able to install the driver and the client now works.
