Error installing SP1...

I try to install SP1 and get this error:

"Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer."

WTF?

Did you download the SP1 file from the internet? Then, most possibly, it may be corrupt.

Secondly, what is this cryptographic service?

This Dammned error !!!

I have seen this before. It could be a corrupt file but I have had the same error on a Dell PC having using the same CD in other machines without issue.

Here is a possible solution.

Follow it through carefully and methodically and let me know if it worked.


Also check the following for me:

Do you get an error message when you go Start -> Connect to -> right click your ISP -> Properties -> Advanced.

Cool my cousins computer is having the same problem. It had the blaster worm but got rid of it. Now I should be able to update their XP.
